DIY Consultations

Can you do it yourself? You sure can! SHOULD you do it yourself and HOW will you do it yourself are questions a licensed general contractor can guide you through. Whether its building a shed, replacing a toilet, or trying to solve a pesky layout problem, I can help you plan out the steps to ensure your success. Or talk you out of it.

Affordable Housing

Everyone deserves a safe, comfortable place to call home—without being priced out of their community. Even in today’s challenging market, there are smart, cost-effective ways to build and renovate. From small-footprint homes to efficient layout redesigns, we focus on practical, durable solutions that lower construction and energy costs without sacrificing quality. Whether it’s new construction or adapting existing spaces, our goal is to help families and communities stay rooted and thrive.

About Uplift

Uplift makes homes that work for you

I'm Natasha. I didn’t grow up in the trades—but I grew up watching them. My dad could fix or build just about anything, and I followed in his footsteps, learning by doing. Over the years, I’ve remodeled bathrooms, tiled floors, installed plumbing, and rebuilt rooms to better fit real life.

What does that mean for you?

It means I see building not just as structures, but as a problem to solve thoughtfully and creatively. Whether you need a new build or want to rework the space you already have, I approach your project with care, clarity, and purpose.

At Uplift Construction, I bring a rare combination to the table: the hands-on skill of a seasoned builder and the strategic thinking of a researcher and professor. Most importantly, I know what it’s like to need your home to work better—to feel more spacious, more functional, more you—without breaking the bank.

Project: Deck Replacement with a Surprise

A picture of an old, rotted looking deck
A picture of a stunning new deck

For this project, the goal was to remove the existing rotting deck and create an outdoor oasis that could accommodate a sitting area and a dining area.

Once the existing deck was removed, it was clear that there was no flashing to direct rainwater away from the house. This, combined with a lack of gutters, resulted in water draining against the house and rotting the rim joist - the supporting band of wood that runs around the edge of the house and connects the floor joists. This was the surprise. A deck is typically attached to the rim joist via a ledger board, and the rotten rim joist was actually causing the floor joists to sink in this area. To repair this, we jacked up the floor, and replaced the rim joist with a fresh and tasty 2x10.

Once this work was done, we laid the footings and supporting structure and did a combination of picture frame and herringbone layouts with white cedar. A pergola of pressure treated 6x6 piers creates a sense of enclosure for the dining area, while stairs lead down to a lower deck which accommodates a seating area and raised fire pit.

An outdoor shower with a honed limestone rock base provides a place to rinse off after a beach day.
